A Public Service Announcement

My inspiration for this PSA was a statistic that I found stating that more deaths in 2007 occurred from drunk driving accidents than the amount of American soldiers killed in the first six years of the war in Iraq. This statistic really stood out to me and made me stop and think. Thus, I thought it would be perfect to base my PSA around it. Because of the Iraq war stat, I chose to go with an army theme and more specifically, used the idea of recruiting college kids to join the war against drunk driving. Design wise, I began with a camouflage to inspire my army theme. Instantly, I thought of Uncle Sam and recruiting college kids to join his army against drunk driving. In terms of a PSA, I think this will read well with my audience. College kids are at the age where we are thinking about life, and our future. We want to thrive and I thought the fact focusing on deaths would resonate with this generation, who has grown up through war, acts of terrorism, etc. After I had the army themed elements down in my design, I decided to add a road in the background. I used the pen tool and the pain brush to design this, making is somewhat curvy to indicate that roads aren’t easy. Finally, I choose two sponsors; MADD and College of Charleston Fire and EMS. MADD or Mothers Against Drunk Driving is an organization that promotes safe rides and is anti drunk driving. The fire and EMS of College of Charleston made sense as well as they are the first respondents to these drunk driving accidents. Overall, I hope my PSA resonates with our generation to stop drunk driving and join the efforts against it. Public Service Announcement
